At Timik Engines, near Southampton in Hampshire, we specialise in remanufacturing quality diesel engines on-site. As proud members of the Federation of Engine Re-manufacturers, we ensure every engine meets the rigorous standards of BSI AU 257:2002, part of the British Standard Automobile Series.
The Perkins 1006.60TW is a 6-cylinder turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine with 6.0 litres of displacement and direct injection. The highest-output variant of the 1006 range, it is identified by the YK build code and distinguished from earlier 1006 variants by its water-cooled intercooler, which the “W” suffix in its name denotes.
Production of the 1006 family ceased in November 2014 after nearly 30 years, with the 1006.60TW representing the final evolution of the series.
The water-cooled intercooler reduces intake charge temperature, increasing air density and allowing higher fuel delivery for improved power output compared to the turbocharged 1006.60T and 1006.60TA variants that preceded it.
Combined with the Perkins Quadram combustion bowl, a computer-aided direct injection system designed to optimise air movement within the cylinder, the 1006.60TW delivers strong torque characteristics and efficient combustion across the operating range. This made it well suited to high-cycle applications requiring sustained performance under load.
The 1006.60TW was adopted for high-output agricultural tractors including the Massey Ferguson 6260, 6270, 6280, 6290, and 8220 series. JCB specified it for the Fastrac 1115, 1125, 1135, 2115, and 2125 tractors and the 426 wheel loader.
In marinised form it formed the basis for the Perkins Sabre M225Ti, M265Ti, and M300Ti propulsion engines, which were used in both commercial and leisure craft worldwide. The engine was also widely adopted for industrial power units, compressors, and generator sets.
The engine block is bored back to standard with new liners fitted. The cylinder head is remanufactured with valve seats re-cut and new valves fitted. The crankshaft is ground to precise tolerances.
All engines are rebuilt in our clean workshop with new pistons and rings, bearings, oil pump, water pump, and complete gasket set. Fuel injection equipment is remanufactured and turbochargers replaced where applicable.
Every engine is dynamometer tested to confirm correct power output, oil pressure, and operating temperatures. Engines are painted and prepared for delivery with full documentation.
