Re-manufactured Perkins 1004.42 Diesel Engine

Perkins 1004.42 “AR” engine. 103mm bore. JCB AR50659, MANITOU AR50659.

Perkins 1004.42: Increased Displacement for Enhanced Torque

At Timik Engines, near Southampton in Hampshire, we specialise in remanufacturing quality diesel engines on-site. As proud members of the Federation of Engine Re-manufacturers, we ensure every engine meets the rigorous standards of BSI AU 257:2002, part of the British Standard Automobile Series.

The Perkins 1004.42 is a 4-cylinder diesel engine offering 4.2 litres of displacement with naturally aspirated induction and direct injection. Manufactured from 1994 to 2004, the 1004.42 provided increased displacement over the 1004.40 variant.

Engine Features:

  • 4-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel, 4.2L displacement
  • Enhanced torque characteristics from larger capacity
  • Direct injection for reliable power delivery
  • Suited to applications requiring strong low-end pulling power
  • Straightforward maintenance without turbocharger complexity

The larger capacity delivered improved torque characteristics, making it well-suited to applications requiring strong low-end pulling power. This engine powered Massey Ferguson, Case IH, and Landini tractors across agricultural applications.

It was also specified for industrial applications including forklifts, generator sets, compressors, and wood chippers. The engine’s design prioritised reliability and serviceability over outright power output. The 1004.42’s naturally aspirated configuration meant straightforward maintenance requirements without the complexity of turbocharger servicing.

Parts availability remains strong, and the engine’s proven design allows for rebuild to original specifications. Post-assembly, each engine undergoes rigorous dynamometer testing, guaranteeing reliable operation under realistic conditions.

How we rebuild the Perkins 1004.42

Step 01

Core Restoration

The engine block is bored back to standard with new liners fitted. The cylinder head is remanufactured with valve seats re-cut and new valves fitted. The crankshaft is ground to precise tolerances.

Step 02

Reassembly

All engines are rebuilt in our clean workshop with new pistons and rings, bearings, oil pump, water pump, and complete gasket set. Fuel injection equipment is remanufactured and turbochargers replaced where applicable.

Step 03

Quality Assurance

Every engine is dynamometer tested to confirm correct power output, oil pressure, and operating temperatures. Engines are painted and prepared for delivery with full documentation.
