A complete reman base engine including fuel injection equipment, plus our optional (for non turbo engines) removal and refit service which covers a full inspection of the marine equipment, paint strip, new silicone hoses and o rings, pressure test of tubestacks, dyno testing and spray of the engine. This engine is often painted in a light Metallic Blue or the darker Perkins blue. After the base engine and marine parts have been thoroughly inspected, Timik provide an email report to advise on any other parts that require replacement at additional cost with your approval.
At Timik Engines, near Southampton in Hampshire, we specialise in remanufacturing quality diesel engines on-site. As proud members of the Federation of Engine Re-manufacturers, we ensure every engine meets the rigorous standards of BSI AU 257:2002, part of the British Standard Automobile Series.
The Perkins 4.236M/M90 Base Engine is a 4-cylinder marine diesel offering 3.9 litres of displacement with naturally aspirated induction and direct injection. Produced from 1964 to 2000, the 4.236 represents one of the longest-running and most successful engine designs in Perkins history.
The M90 marinisation brought this proven agricultural and industrial platform to marine propulsion and auxiliary applications. This base engine powered sailboats, trawlers, and workboats with keel cooling or heat exchanger systems.
Beyond marine applications, the 4.236 also powered Massey Ferguson, Clark, Manitou, JCB, and Landini tractors, Vermeer wood chippers, and Dodge 50 trucks. The 4.236’s longevity speaks to its robust design and reliability.
Parts availability remains strong even for early variants, and the engine’s straightforward architecture means rebuild to original specifications is well understood across the industry. Post-assembly, each engine undergoes rigorous dynamometer testing, guaranteeing reliable operation under realistic conditions.
All our base engines are stripped and inspected, the fuel injection equipment is remanufactured, the engine block is bored, liners fitted and bored back to standard, Main bearing housing line honed, connecting rods honed and new bushes fitted, new pistons and rings fitted, crankshaft ground new bearings fitted, cylinder head is remanufactured having valve seats re cut and new valves fitted if necessary, a new oil pump and water pump fitted and all new gaskets fitted. The engines are re assembled in our clean workshop using the correct procedures and tolerances.
The engine is then dynamometer tested for 4 hours and painted ready for delivery. We are a member of the federation of engine manufacturers, therefore our remanufactured engines are required to meet a certain standard under BSI AU 257:2002, set by British Standard Automobile Series code of practice.
The engine has 12 month warranty, this does not include removal or refitting of the engine, or renumeration or loss of earnings.
Our Perkins marine engines are built with genuine Perkins parts unless NLA or no genuine supply with Perkins at the time of build. Any non genuine parts used are from a company we have used for over 30 years.
The remove and refit service covers: We can remove and refit your marine parts, check through them (advise if any require replacement), paint strip, pressure test tubestacks, re o-ring, re-hose with new silicon hoses, dyno test and spray.
We will always recommend Jabsco raw water pump repair and header tank replacement for certain builds such as the M130, M185C, M225Ti models, and any other marine parts including starter motor and alternator that are found beyond repair will also be quoted at this stage. We do not test senders/switches – these are quoted and can be replaced at the customer’s discretion.
The engine block is bored back to standard with new liners fitted. The cylinder head is remanufactured with valve seats re-cut and new valves fitted. The crankshaft is ground to precise tolerances.
All engines are rebuilt in our clean workshop with new pistons and rings, bearings, oil pump, water pump, and complete gasket set. Fuel injection equipment is remanufactured and turbochargers replaced where applicable.
Every engine is dynamometer tested to confirm correct power output, oil pressure, and operating temperatures. Engines are painted and prepared for delivery with full documentation.
