Re-Manufactured Ford TW15 Tractor Engine

140hp Turbocharged Six-Cylinder Power from Ford’s TW Series

Timik Engines supplies fully re-manufactured turbocharged diesel engines for the Ford TW15 tractor, part of Ford’s updated TW range introduced in 1983 and built at the Basildon factory in Essex. The TW15 replaced the original TW-10 in the revised lineup, which saw the range renumbered to TW-5, TW-15, TW-25, and TW-35, with power increases and a number of comfort and operational refinements across all models.

Where the TW-5 used the 401 engine in naturally aspirated form, the TW-15 stepped up to a turbocharged version of the same unit, offering meaningfully more power and torque for larger-scale arable operations. Production ran until 1990.

The TW15 was available in two-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations and was suited to heavy cultivation, large-acreage arable work, and high-output contracting. Its Dual Power transmission offered 16 forward and 4 reverse gears with on-the-move shifting between direct drive and a lower power mode, providing good field flexibility across a range of implement types.

The 1983 update brought an improved driving position, a floor-level Dual Power pedal, and an optional electronic Performance Monitor for area and wheelslip recording. The turbocharged engine gave the TW15 a substantial torque advantage over the naturally aspirated TW-5, particularly at lower engine speeds, making it better suited to sustained heavy draught work.

The engine fitted to the Ford TW15 is the Ford 401 six-cylinder, liquid-cooled turbocharged diesel, displacing 6.6 litres with a square bore and stroke of 112 x 112mm. It is rated at 137hp (102.2kW) net and 140hp (104.5kW) gross at 2,200rpm, with a maximum torque of 521Nm (384 lb-ft) at 1,600rpm, a compression ratio of 15.6:1, and a firing order of 1-5-3-6-2-4.

Timik Engines re-manufactures this unit to full specification, restoring the block, cylinder head, crankshaft, turbocharger, and rotating assembly to original factory tolerances. Where a TW15 engine has accumulated significant hours or shows signs of wear, a fully re-manufactured unit is the most reliable and cost-effective route back to full working capacity.

Key Features of the Re-manufactured Ford TW15 Diesel Tractor Engine:

  • Six-cylinder turbocharged design from Ford’s proven 401 engine lineage.
  • 6.6L displacement with a square 112 x 112mm bore and stroke.
  • 140hp (104.5kW) gross output at 2,200rpm.
  • 521Nm maximum torque at 1,600rpm, compression ratio 15.6:1.

How we rebuild the Ford TW15 Engine

Step 01

Core Restoration

The engine block is bored back to standard with new liners fitted. The cylinder head is remanufactured with valve seats re-cut and new valves fitted. The crankshaft is ground to precise tolerances.

Step 02

Reassembly

All engines are rebuilt in our clean workshop with new pistons and rings, bearings, oil pump, water pump, and complete gasket set. Fuel injection equipment is remanufactured and turbochargers replaced where applicable.

Step 03

Quality Assurance

Every engine is dynamometer tested to confirm correct power output, oil pressure, and operating temperatures. Engines are painted and prepared for delivery with full documentation.

Engine as described from £4,800 + VAT
Block porosity treatment £350 + VAT (optional)

What is block porosity treatment?

Ford tractor engine blocks are prone to microscopic pores and casting voids that can allow coolant to seep into the oil over time. Block porosity treatment seals these voids using a vacuum impregnation process, where resin is drawn into any leakage paths and cured under pressure. This significantly extends engine life and reduces the risk of coolant contamination after rebuild. We recommend this treatment for all Ford engines where long-term reliability is a priority.

Exchange policy

All engines are supplied on an exchange basis. You send us your existing engine and we return a fully remanufactured unit. If you do not have a donor engine, contact us to discuss surcharge options.

Donor engine requirements

Donor engines must be complete (block, head, crankshaft, and major castings intact). Engines with severe damage may incur additional charges. Contact us before dispatch for assessment.
