Perkins marine engines were designed based on the pre-existing Perkins engine ranges, such as the Perkins 4.236 , 1004/1006 series, 700 series and 400 series, which were built with high quality marine equipment to meet the formidable demands of the marine industry and environment.
Engines are identified by a serial plate fitted to the engine block, using a system of numbers, letters and sometimes a finishing code.
Perkins designed these engines with premium features for reliability and resilience, to provide a long life engine.
Sabre marinised both 4 and 6 cylinder Perkins engines for marine applications, with turbocharged and naturally aspirated options.
Perkins Sabre engines were used in commercial applications such as coastal fishing and also in leisure applications.
Both 4 and 6 cylinder engines were marinised, with turbocharged and naturally aspirated options.
The marine system employs two seperate water circuits, one is a fresh water (closed) circuit which circulates within the cylinder block and head, the other is a 'raw' sea or river water (open) circuit which circulates externally around the engine.
This includes marine equipment for example high capacity heat exchangers with cupro-nickel tubestacks that ensures low operating temperatures for unrivalled operation, Jabsco raw water pumps, and high quality silicon hosing for reliable and efficient cooling.
We rebuild Perkins Sabre marinised engines including the M130C/M135C and 185/225 ranges, as well as the Perkins 4.236M/M90. These cover both 4 and 6 cylinder configurations in turbocharged and naturally aspirated variants. If your engine isn't listed, get in touch — we may still be able to help.
A base engine is the core unit rebuilt to specification, including fuel injection equipment, and turbocharger (if applicable). It does not include marine parts.
A complete marine engine includes the base engine plus all marine equipment remanufactured including a Jabsco raw water pump repair, new silicon hoses, senders/switches, new tubestack, header tank, thermostat & gearbox oil cooler. It also includes a new starter motor and alternator for 12V electrics.
We offer a remove and refit service for all base engine options at additional cost, this includes removing and refitting your marine parts, after removal we will check through them and advise if any require replacement - we will then report this to you with a quotation so you can authorise the additional works.
This service also includes paint strip of the marine parts, pressure testing of tubestacks, re o-ring, re-hose, dyno test and spray.
Our prices are on a service exchange basis, meaning we require your old engine unit in return. This gives us a core to remanufacture for the next customer. If we don't have a suitable core available for your engine, we can rebuild your own unit instead.
All Perkins marine engines are built to order. Lead times vary depending on how many engines we have booked into our workshop at time of order, and are also subject to Perkins parts lead times. Please enquire for a current estimate.
Yes. Every remanufactured engine is dyno tested before dispatch to ensure it meets the correct power output and operating specifications.
Yes. If we don't hold a suitable exchange core, or if you prefer to have your own engine rebuilt, we can do that. Some engines are listed as "rebuild of your own engine only" where exchange cores are not currently available.
If opting for a complete marine engine it will include fully remanufactured or new marine equipment, including a replacement tubestack for the heat exchanger, header tank, gearbox oil cooler (with new hydraulic hoses if requested), thermostat, all new silicon hoses, new pressure & alarm switches with wiring loom fitted, new alternator and starter motor fitted (for 12V electrics, 24V may require reman), and the Jabsco raw water pump will have new bearings, seals, cam, end plate and impellor fitted.
Prices start from around £5,500 + VAT for a base engine rebuild and from £7,000 + VAT for a complete marine engine, depending on the model.
Marine equipment is not included with base engine prices. A surcharge will apply on engines supplied on an exchange basis, this is not refundable if no core is returned as this enables us to source another core unit for our next customer.
