Need help identifying your engine?
Send us your serial number and data plate photos — we'll identify it and quote a rebuild or replacement.
To find the exact specification of your Perkins engine, you'll need to locate the serial number on the metal data plate fixed to the engine block. The build format looks like PJ12345, and the serial number like *U123456P — together these identify the engine family, build type, country of origin, and year of manufacture.
Once you've found the plate, the letters and numbers that make up the model number are a series of codes telling you the engine family, number of cylinders, emissions standard, ignition type, capacity, aspiration type, and (where applicable) the generator set rating.
Send us your serial number and data plate photos — we'll identify it and quote a rebuild or replacement.

Common questions about Perkins engine serial numbers, data plates and identification codes
The serial number is on a metal data plate fixed to the engine block. It follows the format *U123456P where the letter before the number is the country of manufacture and the letter after is the year of manufacture.
The build number (e.g. PJ12345) is shown separately on the same plate.
A Perkins engine number contains five coded sections: the first two letters identify the engine family (e.g. PJ = 1106D-E66TA), the following digits are the build type number, a single letter indicates the country of manufacture (e.g. U = UK), then the unique serial number, and finally a letter for the year of manufacture." }
Locate the metal data plate on the engine block and read the first two letters of the build number.
Match these against the Engine Family and Type Code table, for example, AA is a 1004-4, HP is a 404C-22, RE is a 1104C-44.
If you cannot read the plate, send photos to Timik Engines and we will identify it for you.
In Perkins engine model numbers, T indicates the engine is turbocharged.
Other common specification letters include A for air-to-air charge cooling, D for direct injection, E for electronic control, and TA for turbocharged with air-to-air after-cooling.
The final letter of the serial number indicates the year of manufacture. The code runs A (1974) through Y (1994), skipping I, O, Q, R and Z, then restarts from A (1995).
For example, P means 1987 in the first cycle or a later equivalent year. Contact Timik Engines with your full serial number if you need help dating your engine.
