As per Mermaid Marine Engines Ltd’s spec sheet:
The Mermaid “Majestic” is a 6 cylinder, turbocharged and intercooled high performance marine diesel engine and is based on the highly reliable Ford ‘Dover series’ engine.
At its full rating this engine is particulary suitable for fast pleasure craft and in the continiously rated version the Mermaid “Majestic” is suitable for all commercial duties including fast fishing boats, rescue craft and patrol boats of all types. To meet the requirements of these varies applications the design incorporates the very latest diesel engine technoloy to minimised noise levels and exhaust emissions whilst maintaining a good power to weight ratio.
The engine features an oil piston cooling arrangement to maintain low piston temperatures and a specially matched water cooled turbo-charger and high capacity intercooling system to enable quite exceptionally low fuel consumpliation to be achieved.
Each engine is hand built to the highest possible standards and incorporates a high efficiency, split flow fresh water cooling system utilising a high capacity heat exchanger and twin V belt drive for the fresh water circulating pump and alternator for the extra reliability for whicih Mermaid engines are renowned.
After assembly every engine is dynamometer tested to ensure it performs to specification and finally is carefully finished in anti corrosive paint to protect the engine throughout it’s life.
